Affirming counselling services
for queer and trans people
by a queer and trans person

Hi! My name is Adrianna (she/her). I believe in a world in which all people are listened to, affirmed, and supported in achieving their most authentic form of flourishing. As a counsellor, my work is focused on giving that attention to you.

My lived and professional experience as a queer and trans therapist allows me to attend to many ways of being that are not always understood, such as queerness, neurodivergence, ethical non-monogamy, and parenting in structures outside of the hetero nuclear family. My position as both a trans person and a parent lends me a unique ability to attend to both the needs of trans youth and the concerns of the parents who support them.

ABOUT ME

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University, I am a professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and I am registered as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). I have a decade of experience in the mental health field, both as a counsellor specializing in supporting queer and transgender adults and teens, and as a mental health worker and first responder in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side.

MY APPROACH

My work involves building an attuned and nurturing relationship, inviting curiosity about thoughts and feelings, processing how past hurts might be impacting the present, and providing tools to move beyond unhelpful patterns.

My work typically involves warmly and deeply attending to the poignant and painful parts of a client’s experiences and unmet needs, while simultaneously offering lightness and a playful realness when needed, which helps the therapeutic relationship feel comfortable and relatable.

I work from queer, anti-oppressive, and feminist theories, and the belief that we get to be the authors of our own identities.

Above all, my greatest joy and most important commitment in this work is guiding a client to step into a truer version of themselves - a version that is able to step into the joys and challenges of their life more fully than ever.

Some specific areas of my expertise are:

Gender exploration and transition

Coming Out

Self esteem, guilt, and shame

Changing negative thought patterns & behaviours

Anxiety

Supporting parents of trans children

Boundaries

Family of origin work

Addiction

CBT

Emotional self-awareness

How to work with me

I offer in-person sessions at my office in East Vancouver, as well as Telehealth sessions for people living elsewhere in BC.

My rate is $145 per 50 minute session.

Sliding scale options may be available.

It is important to me that you have a counsellor that feels like a good fit for you. I offer a free 15-minute consultation via phone or video so we can get to know each other a little bit before you decide to work with me.

“I strongly believe in the healing that can arise when doing therapeutic work with other queer and trans people, which grows from the shared understanding of the unique joys, struggles, and strengths that we carry with us.”
